Ernst's primary research interest is in the development of dynamic marketing models to provide insight in managerially relevant issues such as the effectiveness of marketing over the brand's life cycle and the effects of advertising on stock return and risk. Ernst has a specific interest in determining the effects of pharmaceutical marketing and studying the marketing-finance link. From a methodological perspective, he enjoys applying (non-linear) Kalman filtering, including stochastic volatility models, and functional coefficient models.
